SoftBank Corp. (TYO:9434) plans to begin manufacturing AI servers in Sakai by fiscal 2027, addressing domestic demand for locally produced AI infrastructure, President and CEO Junichi Miyakawa said at SoftBank's annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday.
The company, which acquired the former Sharp plant in 2025, will oversee server design, assembly, and maintenance while leveraging industrial robots to minimize staffing needs, Miyakawa said.
The Sakai facility will be hosting a battery production line and next-generation solar panels.
SoftBank will launch cloud-based AI computing services in October and establish a U.S. test site by late fiscal 2026.
