Singapore shares surged on Monday, despite regional indices reacting negatively to recent statements made by leaders of OpenAI and Anthropic calling for a slowdown in AI development to manage risks and protect humanity.
The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,677.79 and 5,725.56 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,718.02, up 22.09 points or 0.4% compared to Friday's close.
On the corporate front, shares of CapAllianz (SGX:594) surged over 100% at the close as the company proposed to place around 1.95 billion shares at SG$0.0011 apiece to raise around SG$2.1 million.
MetaOptics (SGX:9MT) closed over 5% lower as it unveiled plans to raise around SG$1.1 million via the placement of about 2.7 million shares at SG$0.3912 apiece.
Meanwhile, JEP Holdings (SGX:1J4) confirmed plans to transfer its listing to the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange.
