Singapore shares fell on Monday, despite robust US jobs report which narrowed odds on a hike in interest rates.
The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,768.86 and 5,803.12 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,792.28, down 9.68 points or 0.2% compared to Friday's close.
In economic news, Singapore's total retail sales rose 1.5% year-over-year to SG$4.4 billion in July, following a 4.0% increase in the prior month, according to data from the Statistics Department.
Meanwhile, Singapore government's total foreign reserves increased to SG$550.7 billion in August from SG$549.3 billion in July, according to data published by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
On the corporate front, shares of Global Invacom (SGX:QS9) plunged over 25% even as it raised around SG$4.8 million from its renounceable partially underwritten rights issue.
Beng Kuang Marine (SGX:BEZ) closed nearly 5% higher as its subsidiary, Asian Sealand Offshore and Marine, secured a purchase order worth SG$7.4 million for works on a floating production storage and offloading vessel in Angola.
Meanwhile, shares of Singapore Land Group (SGX:U06) were up nearly 2% at the close as it was awarded a residential site at Changi Road by the Urban Redevelopment Authority for SG$1.43 billion.
