Singapore shares ended the week on a high, shedding their recent losses as investors anticipate a speech by the US Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh, holding out for clues over interest rates.
The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,673.55 and 5,700.52 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,699.93, up 15.81 points or 0.3% compared to Thursday's close.
In economic news, Singapore's export prices rose 13.1% year over year in July, according to data from the Singapore Department of Statistics.
On the corporate front, shares of Frencken Group (SGX:E28) closed over 7% lower with the company targeting to raise around SG$100 million by placing up to 44.1 million shares at SG$2.2687 apiece.
GuocoLand's (SGX:F17) shares closed nearly 4% lower as its attributable profit fell 70% to SG$9.8 million in the second half of the fiscal year ended June 30, from SG$32.4 million a year ago.
Meanwhile, Kim Heng (SGX:5G2) shares were up nearly 3% at the close as it signed a letter of intent to divest a 70% stake in subsidiary Bridgewater Offshore to Weft + Water for $26.8 million.
