Shanghai Electric, CMA CGM and Shanghai International Port completed an 8,000-metric-ton green methanol bunkering operation at Shanghai's Yangshan Port, the companies said Tuesday.
Shanghai Electric's Taonan project supplied most of the green methanol, using renewable power and biomass to produce marine fuel. The project has entered a new phase focused on stable, continuous production and scaled-up deliveries.
The 8,000 mt can fuel the vessel's full voyage from Shanghai to the East Coast of South America, cutting emissions by an estimated 10,000 mt of carbon dioxide, CMA CGM said.
The operation connects methanol production in Taonan to transportation and storage via Dalian, before final bunkering at Shanghai's port, creating an integrated supply chain.
The companies said the operation demonstrates how green shipping fuels can move at scale from production and storage, through transportation, and ultimately to vessels, creating a more connected supply chain.
