Seven Killed at Aeon Mall Kumamoto Explosion After Major Earthquake

Seven people were killed in an explosion at Aeon's (TYO:8267) Aeon Mall Kumamoto, which took place after a strong earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Tuesday, according to a Thursday filing with the Tokyo Exchange.

Customers were evacuated from the mall after the earthquake before the explosion occurred. The cause of the explosion is under investigation, the retailer said.

Three deaths were confirmed on Wednesday. The company also confirmed a partial collapse of the mall's ceiling and exterior walls.
