The Philadelphia Semiconductor index was shedding 0.8%.
In sector news, the US government is seeking to support Elon Musk's legal challenge against a 120 million euro ($136.5 million) EU fine imposed on social media platform X for alleged violations of the bloc's online rules, Bloomberg reported.
In corporate news, Gen Digital (GEN) has made an initial takeover approach for GoDaddy (GDDY) as it seeks to expand beyond cybersecurity and privacy technology, the Financial Times reported. Gen Digital shares fell 9%, and GoDaddy rose 4.7%.
Oracle (ORCL) issued a force majeure notice to Project Jupiter's developer, a unit of Blue Owl Capital (OWL), seeking to defer payments if its planned New Mexico data center is delayed and fails to come online in 2028 as planned, Bloomberg reported. Oracle shares fell 4.2%.
Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, bringing a visual presence to its native live dialogue models. Separately, Google said Thursday it will launch a prototype satellite to assess how its AI chips perform in space, as part of the first in-orbit test of Project Suncatcher. Alphabet shares added 1%.
