The Philadelphia Semiconductor index shed 2.1%.
In corporate news, Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH) said Monday it has struck a five-year partnership with Andover to scale its systems, unify its data, and help lay the foundation for AI adoption in underwriting and claims. Cognizant shares were up 4.4%.
Energy stocks were mixed late Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index 0.1% lower and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) up 0.3%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index climbed up 2.9%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index was up 0.1%.West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 3% to $89.45 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent dropped 3.9% to $96.80 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures shed 1.3% to $2.88 per 1 million BTU.In corporate news, SLB (SLB) shares jumped past 10% after its Q2 adjusted earnings and revenue topped market estimates.NextEra Energy (NEE) reported mixed Q2 results with adjusted earnings topping estimates and operating revenue trailing Wall Street forecasts. Shares were 0.2% lower.BP (BP) is in advanced talks to sell its solar power arm Lightsource to a consortium comprising Qualitas Energy, a private equity firm focused on green energy, and Wren House, the infrastructure arm of the Kuwait Investment Authority, Reuters reported. BP shares were down 0.4%.American Resources (AREC) said Friday it will pay a special dividend of 4.31 cents per share, payable on Aug. 25 to shareholders of record Aug. 15. Shares were down 2%.

Home sales were still down 5.6% from a year ago.In corporate news, Digital Realty Trust (DLR) reported Q2 core funds from operations and operating revenue above market expectations late Thursday, and the company also raised its 2026 core FFO and revenue guidance. Shares surged past 11%.BlackRock (BLK) started marketing $12.3 billion in high-grade bonds to finance a Meta Platforms (META) data center project, Bloomberg reported. BlackRock shares rose 1.7%.American Express' (AXP) Q2 earnings topped Wall Street's estimates, but revenue missed expectations, while the company now expects full-year revenue to grow at the high end of its previous guidance range. Its shares fell 4.6%.Tompkins Financial (TMP) shares jumped past 8% after it reported better-than-expected Q2 results.Safety Insurance (SAFT) shares soared 42%. The company said late Thursday it entered an agreement to be acquired by an affiliate of Mapfre in a $1.54 billion all-cash deal.

Verizon shares gained 5.2%, and Charter fell 2.9%.Starbucks (SBUX) is expected to report continued sales momentum in fiscal Q3 as its turnaround plans and new sales initiatives supported a recovery in the US business, UBS Securities said in a note. Starbucks shares added 0.6%.
