Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Rise Wednesday Afternoon

Healthcare stocks rose Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index increasing 0.3% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) adding 0.5%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.9%.

In corporate news, Twist Bioscience (TWST) shares gained 4.2% after the company said it has agreed to provide antibody characterization data services to Lilly TuneLab, an AI drug discovery platform created by Eli Lilly (LLY). Lilly shares added 0.5%.

Sanofi (SNY) said Wednesday it has opened the Charles Best Building flu vaccine manufacturing facility in the Sanofi Toronto campus that will make its Fluzone High-Dose influenza vaccine. Sanofi shares were up 0.9%.

Novartis (NVS) discontinued development of VHB937 for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the company said in an emailed statement toWednesday. The decision was taken after a phase 2 Astrals study did not meet its primary or secondary endpoints. Novartis shares were fractionally higher.

Sector Update: Energy Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

Energy stocks were higher late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) each adding 2%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was rising 1.9%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index was down 0.9%.Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil jumped 4.2% to $105.67 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract added 2.7% to $108.51 a barrel. Financial stocks were lower in late Tuesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index decreasing 0.5% and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) shedding 0.3%.The Philadelphia Housing Index was down 0.2%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) was easing 0.1%.Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was falling 2.8% to $75,953, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose 3.5 basis points to 4.996%.In economic news, the US Federal Reserve kicked off its two-day monetary policy meeting on Tuesday.
