Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Rise in Afternoon Trading

Healthcare stocks rose Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) each adding about 0.8%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) increased 0.2%.

In corporate news, Novo Nordisk (NVO) is seeking a preliminary US court injunction to immediately block advertising by Eli Lilly (LLY) for its obesity and diabetes drugs, escalating the companies' legal dispute over weight-loss drug marketing, Reuters reported Friday. Novo shares rose 1.7%, and Lilly was up 1.3%.

Tenet Healthcare (THC) shares jumped past 17% after it posted higher Q2 adjusted earnings and revenue, and raised its 2026 guidance.

Scribe Therapeutics (SCTX) shares surged 50% in their Friday debut on Nasdaq after the company priced its IPO of 8.58 million shares at $15 per share.

Sector Update: Energy Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

Energy stocks rose late Thursday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index gaining 1.1% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) adding 0.7%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index shed 0.1%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index increased 0.5%.Brent crude futures topped $100 a barrel for the first time since May after the US-Iran conflict widened, with Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis claiming attacks on two Saudi Arabian oil tankers in the Red Sea, news outlets reported.West Texas Intermediate crude oil jumped 5.8% to $91.90 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent surged 6.7% to $100.37.
