Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Mixed Pre-Bell Friday

Healthcare stocks were mixed pre-bell Friday, with the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) down 0.2% and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) 0.1% higher.

Novo Nordisk's (NVO) charitable foundation and its Quantum Foundry Copenhagen company are planning to set up a new 5,300 square meter quantum chip production facility in Copenhagen, the organizations said. Shares of Novo Nordisk were down more than 2% premarket.

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY) told regulators, researchers and patient groups in early June that it had paused trials of its CAR-T treatment zola-cel in autoimmune disorders over potentially life-threatening side effects, The Wall Street Journal reported. Bristol Myers Squibb stock was down 1% pre-bell.

Ionis Pharmaceuticals (IONS) shares were 0.8% higher after the company said the US Food and Drug Administration approved zanvastrotm, or zilganersen, to treat Alexander disease in pediatric and adult patients.

Sector Update: Energy Stocks Decline Late Afternoon

Energy stocks were lower late Thursday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.4% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) down 0.5%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was falling 1.8%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index added 0.9%.In geopolitical news, the US and Iran have intensified tit-for-tat military strikes in recent days, remaining locked between ceasefire and all-out war as the White House struggles to end the six-month conflict, Bloomberg reported. Iran said it attacked bases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates "in response to America's crimes against the Iranian people," Al Jazeera, a Middle Eastern broadcaster, reported.Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.7% to $91.62 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract increased 0.1% to $95.71 a barrel.
