Healthcare stocks rose late Monday afternoon with the NYSE Healthcare Index increasing 0.6% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) adding 0.8%.
The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) climbed 1.4%.
In corporate news, Eli Lilly's (LLY) oral drug Foundayo now makes up one-third of new GLP-1 pill patients, CNBC reported, citing CEO Dave Ricks. Lilly broke ground on a $6.5 billion Houston manufacturing plant expected to be operational by 2030, the report also said. Lilly shares rose 0.8%.
Novo Nordisk (NVO) shares fell past 7% after it unveiled its long-term growth targets ahead of patent expirations for semaglutide, the active ingredient in its weight loss and diabetes drugs. Separately, Novo is facing shareholder calls to develop new medicines and pursue acquisitions to lower its dependence on its popular weight-loss treatments, the Financial Times reported.
Telix (TLX) said it has agreed to buy Munich-based radioisotope maker ITM Isotope Technologies for $1.65 billion in upfront consideration to strengthen its radiopharmaceutical offerings. Telix shares dropped past 10%.
Amneal Pharmaceuticals (AMRX) shares gained over 9% after the company said Friday that the US Food and Drug Administration approved its lanreotide injection, 120 mg/0.5 mL.
