Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

Healthcare stocks were higher late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index rising 1% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) adding 1.4%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) climbed 1%.

In corporate news, Eli Lilly (LLY) received UK authorization for orforglipron, marketed as Foundayo, a once-daily tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said Monday. Lilly shares gained 3.7%.

Teledyne Technologies (TDY) has agreed to acquire X-ray imaging components manufacturer Varex Imaging (VREX) in a $1.1 billion deal that will expand its X-ray device portfolio to include oncology detectors. Teledyne shares were up 0.3%, and Varex surged 48%.

Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) expects to increase its customer base in India by 15% to 20% over the next five years, driven by growth in biopharma research and manufacturing, Reuters reported, citing Srinath Venkatesh, the company's managing director for India and South Asia. Thermo Fisher shares were up 0.7%.

Silence Therapeutics (SLN) shares jumped 27% after it said Monday its phase 2 trial of divesiran to treat Polychthemia Vera, a form of blood cancer, met its primary endpoint.

Sector Update: Energy Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

Energy stocks were lower late Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index falling 1.1% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) dropping 1.3%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was shedding 1.4%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index rose 0.8%.In geopolitical news, Iranian lawmakers are debating the wording of a proposed deal with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, with President Donald Trump insisting an agreement is getting closer, Bloomberg reported. Sector Update: Tech Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

Tech stocks were higher late Friday afternoon, with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rising 1.2% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) climbing 4.2%.The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index added 2%.In corporate news, Microchip Technology's (MCHP) strong fiscal Q1 results were buoyed by better cyclical trends and structural tailwinds from its data center and aerospace and defense segments, Morgan Stanley said in a Friday note.
