Healthcare stocks were edging higher pre-bell Friday, with the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) up 0.1% and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) advancing by 0.6%.
Arbutus Biopharma (ABUS) shares were up more than 9% after the clinical-stage company said it plans to launch a modified Dutch auction tender offer to repurchase up to $230 million of its common shares at between $5 and $5.75 per share in cash.
Aveanna Healthcare Holdings (AVAH) said selling stockholders priced a secondary public offering of 15 million common shares at $11.75 per share. Aveanna Healthcare stock was down nearly 3% premarket.
Werewolf Therapeutics (HOWL) and Ambros Therapeutics entered into an all-stock merger agreement to create a Nasdaq-listed biotech focused on developing neridronate for complex regional pain syndrome type 1, the companies said. Shares of Werewolf were up 146% pre-bell.
