Sector Update: Financial Stocks Rise Late Afternoon

Financial stocks were advancing in late Monday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index rising 0.8% and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) ahead 0.5%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was climbing 0.9%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) was up 1%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) climbed 6.7% to $86,639, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries fell 4.1 basis points to 4.96%.

In sector news, the Bank of England and the US Federal Reserve have intensified scrutiny of banks' exposure to large trading firms and market makers following losses at Jane Street, the Financial Times reported. According to the report, regulators are questioning global banks on exposures to firms such as Jane Street and Citadel Securities, focusing on risk appetite, intraday exposure changes and risk controls. The scrutiny follows Jane Street's reported $15 billion July loss as the AI rally reversed, including multibillion-dollar losses tied to Situational Awareness, the report added.

In corporate news, JPMorgan's (JPM) asset management division and Qatar Investment Authority said Monday they have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a $20 billion partnership, spanning public and private markets in both equities and credit. JPMorgan shares added 0.7%.

Coinbase (COIN) said Monday it is now offering access to initial public offering allocations for retail traders in the US. Coinbase said that, starting with Oura's (OURA) IPO this week, eligible clients will be able to request shares at the offer price before open-market trading begins. Coinbase shares gained 3.4%.

Carlyle (CG) is preparing for the potential initial public offering of its Highway Roop Precision Technologies unit, which could raise up to $400 million, Bloomberg reported. Carlyle shares were up 2.3%.

Apollo Global Management (APO) is close to securing a 16% stake in the New York Yankees through a $2.6 billion debt and equity investment valuing the franchise at over $12 billion, the New York Post reported. Apollo shares added 1.6%.

Sector Update: Energy Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

Energy stocks fell late Friday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index declining 0.7% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) down 0.4%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index fell 0.5%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index dropped 1.2%.West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 2.2% to $99.70 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent shed 1.5% to $103.21 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures were little changed at $2.90 per 1 million BTU.In corporate news, Westinghouse Electric is aiming for a valuation of over $50 billion in its US initial public offering, Bloomberg reported. Under the deal, GIP will invest $1.8 billion for a stake in some of TotalEnergies' midstream infrastructure assets in Africa, it said. TotalEnergies shares were down 1%.BP (BP) Developments Australia has agreed to sell a 5% stake in the Browse liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia to Osaka Gas Browse, Osaka Gas said.
