Energy stocks were falling premarket Monday, with the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) declining by 1.1%.
The United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 3.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.9% lower.
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was 2.9% lower at $97.43 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil fell 2.9% to $100.84 per barrel, and natural gas futures were down 2.2% at $2.85 per 1 million British Thermal Units.
Petrobras (PBR) board approved the Brazilian state-run oil firm's participation in a new subsidy program for diesel producers and importers, the company said. Petrobras stock was 0.5% lower pre-bell.
Halliburton (HAL) has signed memorandums of understanding with Eneva and WESCA to support oil and gas sector development in Venezuela, the oil services major said. Halliburton shares were down 0.9% premarket.
