Energy stocks were higher Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 0.8% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) adding 1%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was climbing 1.3%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index decreased 0.1%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil was rising 3.4% to $101.48 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract was advancing 3% to $107.31 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 3.2% to $2.82 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Eni (E) has asked Morgan Stanley (MS) to help it raise funds from investors, including Apollo (APO), KKR (KKR), and Stonepeak, in a potential deal backed by its floating liquefied natural gas assets, Reuters reported. Eni shares rose 0.2%.
