Consumer stocks fell Tuesday afternoon with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) dropping 0.5% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) declining 1.4%.
In corporate news, General Motors (GM) is launching a new user interface for its pickup trucks featuring the latest versions of Apple (AAPL) CarPlay and Android Auto and plans to deliver additional system enhancements via wireless software updates. GM shares fell 1.9%.
