Consumer stocks were higher Friday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 0.5% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) adding 0.9%.
In corporate news, Kroger (KR) reported fiscal Q2 adjusted EPS Friday of $1.09, up from $1.04 a year earlier and above the FactSet consensus of $1.06. Fiscal Q2 sales were $34.62 billion, up from $33.94 billion a year ago, but below the FactSet consensus of $34.64 billion. Kroger shares were up 2.8%.
