Swiss generic drug manufacturer Sandoz filed an anti-dumping complaint against Chinese imports of amoxicillin before the European Commission, it said in a Thursday news release.
The drugmaker said Chinese imports engaged in clear market-manipulating behavior through sustained below-cost pricing of state-subsidized penicillin active pharmaceutical ingredients, it said.
With up to 90% of antibiotic APIs primarily made in China, Europe faces a "crucial strategic vulnerability" detrimental to public health, Sandoz CEO Richard Saynor said.
