Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) has developed the industry's first Universal Flash Storage 5.0 solution, which can achieve a sequential read speed of 10.8 gigabytes per second and write speed of 9.5 GB/second, according to a company release on Tuesday.
The speeds are twice the performance of the previous UFS 4.1 standard, backed by need for mobile AI applications to have faster local data processing.
The new solution will also improve power efficiency by more than 40%.
Mass production is slated to begin during the fourth quarter of the year, targeting flagship smartphones, XR headsets, AI wearables and generative AI workloads.
