RWE has received Australian federal environmental approval for its proposed 1.1-gigawatt Theodore Wind Farm in Central Queensland under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, the energy firm said in a Wednesday statement.
RWE said the project has now secured all required state and federal approvals and will next seek secondary consents from the local council and other authorities.
The EPBC approval includes conditions related to biodiversity protection and the management of potential environmental impacts. RWE said it would implement environmental management and monitoring plans in accordance with those requirements.
The A$3 billion ($2.1 billion) project is expected to begin construction in 2027, subject to a final investment decision. Construction is expected to take up to four years and employ up to 500 workers during peak periods.
