The Rwanda government on Monday entered into a memorandum of understanding with Kenya for the import of refined petroleum products via the Northern Corridor.
Two implementing agreements, including a tripartite deal between the two governments and the Rwanda National Energy, or RNEC, and a transport and storage agreement between RNEC and Kenya Pipeline, were also signed on the occasion.
The agreements establish "a structured and reliable framework for the supply, transportation, storage, and evacuation of petroleum products through Kenya's petroleum infrastructure," according to a statement issued by Rwanda's Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The agreements will provide Rwanda improved access to Kenya's petroleum logistics system and help enhance the efficiency, reliability and resilience of the country's petroleum supply pipeline, it added.
The agreements will be implemented immediately through the designated institutions.
