rPlus Energies started commercial operations at the Green River Energy Center, marking the launch of the largest solar and storage facility in PacifiCorp's service territory, the company said Tuesday.
Located in Utah's Emery County, the project combines 400 megawatts of solar generation with a 400 MW battery system capable of storing 1,600 megawatt-hours of electricity, supporting growing power demand across the western US, the company said.
The facility also supports Utah's Operation Gigawatt initiative, which aims to double the state's energy output within 10 years following its launch in 2024.
Schools and public services are expected to receive more than $55 million in property tax revenue from the project over time. Construction activities also created hundreds of jobs and involved several local contractors.
Project partners committed $375,000 in scholarships to support local students pursuing careers in energy and related industries. The company said the initiative aims to strengthen the region's future workforce.
The project received recognition from Project Finance International, which awarded it Renewables Deal of the Year-Americas. The Emery County Business Chamber also named rPlus its 2024 Energy Company of the Year, according to the company.
rPlus said the honors reflect the project's long-term investment in the region and its contribution to expanding reliable energy infrastructure across Utah.
"Together, we believed in the vision, and today Green River Energy Center is delivering reliable power and real value to families across the American West," said Luigi Resta, rPlus Energies President & CEO.
