Renewable energy remained the European Union's largest source of electricity in 2025, accounting for 47.2% of total power generation, according to preliminary data from Eurostat.
While electricity generated from renewable sources slipped 0.5% year over year to 1,330 terawatt-hours, largely due to weaker hydroelectric output, overall renewable energy supply across the bloc increased 1.4% to 11.5 million terajoules, reflecting robust growth in the sector.
Meanwhile, electricity generated from fossil fuels rose 3.2% to 830 TWh, accounting for 29.6% of total EU power generation.
Nuclear power, on the other hand, was third in line, producing 650 TWh, or 23.2% of the electricity mix, up 0.2% from a year earlier.
