Russian gas supplies to Germany through the Nord Stream pipeline could be restored as quickly as by "tomorrow" if Berlin asks for it, Russian President Vladimir Putin is reported to have said, according to multiple media outlets on Thursday.
During an annual meeting with international news agencies at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin reportedly said that one of the two lines of the Nord Stream 2 gas system remains intact. Attacks damaged the pipeline in 2022 when it was nearing completion.
Russia could deliver up to 28 billion cubic meters of gas per year, but it is up to the German government to decide whether to buy it, Putin was cited by Reuters as saying.
Russia does not refuse energy exports, and existing contracts and infrastructure allow for immediate resumption of gas deliveries, the president said, APT News reported.
Nord Stream and the German energy ministry did not immediately respond to' requests for comment.
