Powercom (TPE:3043) received notice of a civil lawsuit in Canada seeking C$2 million in damages over a fire allegedly caused by a defective elevator control cabinet, according to a Wednesday Taiwan Exchange filing.
The company said a spontaneous combustion incident damaged a building and equipment inside, prompting the plaintiff to sue seven suppliers associated with the elevator control cabinet, including Powercom for its UPS product.
The case is being heard by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the elctronics manufacturer said.
Powercom said it has notified its insurer, which provides coverage of up to $2 million, and does not expect the lawsuit to have a material adverse impact.
