Malaysian state oil firm Petronas made two new oil and gas discoveries and completed a successful appraisal well at Suriname's offshore Block 52, lifting recoverable resources in the country to more than 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
The Malaysian state energy firm said its unit, PETRONAS Suriname E&P discovered oil at the Caiman-1 well and gas at the Swartzia Aspasia Complex-1 well, while the Roystonea-2 appraisal confirmed the extent and productivity of an existing oil reservoir.
PETRONAS, which operates Block 52 with an 80% stake, said the results strengthen the development potential of the block. The discoveries build on the commerciality declaration for the Sloanea gas field in 2025, with a final investment decision targeted by the end of this year.
