Discount store Pan Pacific International's (TYO:7532) total sales in August gained 1.4%, while the average customer spending increased 1.6%, according to a Thursday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
All store sales gained 3.5% year on year, with store count rising to 676 compared with 655 last year.
Food and daily necessities drove sales in the discount store and UNY business wings. In the domestic retail business, sales of summer seasonal products were softer amid lower temperatures and regional heavy rain, which weighed on customer traffic.
