Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) will refund more than AU$270,000 to over 4,500 customers after it allegedly overcharged customers on its "Ongoing Saver" residential electricity plan, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said Tuesday.
The ACCC investigated Origin following a designated complaint by the Australian Consumers' Association.
It found that some customers on Ongoing Saver plans were charged more than they would have been on the "Basic" plan even though statements by the company suggested the Saver plan carries lower charges, the regulator said.
Origin Energy did not admit to any breaches of Australian Consumer Law but agreed to refund about AU$60 on average to each affected customer, the ACCC said.
