Orica (ASX:ORI) said a carbon utilization facility, which will capture carbon dioxide from Orica's ammonia production at Kooragang Island, New South Wales, opened adjacent to the site, according to a Friday statement.
The plant was developed by MCi Carbon with Orica's support.
The demonstration facility is capable of processing around 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, producing up to 10,000 tonnes of saleable materials. The captured carbon dioxide will be converted into carbon-embodied materials, such as concrete, plasterboard, paint, paper, glass, and adhesives.
Orica's shares fell 1% in recent trading on Friday.
