OpenAI Urges US to Lead Global Effort to Set AI Standards

Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is pushing the US to lead a global effort to set international technical standards for AI.

The US "is well positioned to lead because its AI industry is at the technical frontier, and it still stands in a privileged global network position in critical areas such as finance, trade, defense, technology, and information systems," the company said Monday in a blog post.

Standards are needed to help define the types of incidents involving AI models that should be reported, as well as how countries can work together on AI advancement, the company said.
