A shipping crew member has been killed and two others are missing after their tanker caught fire about 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar, Oman, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said on Wednesday.
"Local authorities have reported a tanker has experienced a fire in their engine room and are on the scene assisting with the evacuation of the crew," the UKMTO alert said.
The alert did not mention the cause of the fire but added that no impact on the environment was reported from the incident.
Further investigations are taking place, the UKMTO said.
Meanwhile, a cargo vessel was approached by a small craft with six armed persons onboard resulting in an exchange of fire about 88 nautical miles southwest of Balhaf, Yemen, UKMTO said in a separate alert on Wednesday.
"There was an exchange of fire between the small craft and the cargo vessels armed security team resulting in the small craft turning away," the alert said.
