The US National Weather Service said it expects the central Plains region to experience scattered severe storms, with large to very large hail, severe wind gusts, and a few tornadoes, on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, the region stretching from the Great Lakes to the Mid-South could expect heavy rainfall with potential flooding risks.
The agency forecast critical fire weather threats from the Southwest US into the Great Basin due to the presence of hot, dry and windy conditions.
The NWS early Tuesday issued a red flag warning for Wyoming's Casper, Wright, Torrington, Wheatland, Chugwater, Pine Bluffs, and Cheyenne, which primarily falls under the service area of PacifiCorp's Rocky Mountain Power.
A similar warning was raised for New Mexico's Grants, Gallup, and Farmington. TXNM Energy (TXNM) unit Public Service Co. of New Mexico and Xcel Energy (XEL) are among the primary electricity suppliers in the state.
Affected areas in Colorado included Craig, Rangely, Meeker, Vail, Rifle, Aspen, Grand Junction, Nucla, Montrose, Gunnison, Telluride, Lake City, Durango, Cortez, Pagosa Springs, Canon City, Trinidad, Pueblo, La Veta Pass, La Junta, Lamar, Ordway, Julesburg, Sterling, Greeley Fort Morgan, Akron, Denver, Deer Trail, Castle Rock, and Limon. The state is primarily served by Xcel Energy and Black Hills (BKH) unit Black Hills Energy.
Also placed under a red flag warning watch were Arizona's Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, Kingman, Grand Canyon Village, Seligman, Flagstaff, Winslow, Payson, Kayenta, Chinle, St. Johns, and Show Low. Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company and UNS Energy subsidiary UniSource Energy Services are among the major service providers in these places.
In Utah, a warning for fire weather conditions was issued for Vernal, Duchesne, Price, Nephi, Delta, Manti, Richfield, Milford, St. George, Zion National Park, Escalante, Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar City, Green River, Moab, Capitol Reef National Park, Monticello, Blanding, and Bluff. These places primarily fall under the service area of PacifiCorp's Rocky Mountain Power.
California's Shasta Dam, Redding, Red Bluff, Corning, Alder Springs, Paradise, Marysville, Woodland, Fairfield, and Grass Valley, primarily served by PG&E (PCG) unit Pacific Gas and Electric Company, were also covered under a warning for fire weather conditions.
A similar warning was also raised for small pockets of Las Vegas in Nevada, primarily served by Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary NV Energy.
A red flag warning was also issued for Nebraska's Harrison, Chadron, Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Alliance, Harrisburg, Kimball, Sidney, Rushville, Oshkosh, Chappell, Ogallala, Hyannis, Arthur. Meanwhile, a warning for flash flood was also issued for Alliance, Bridgeport, and Scottsbluff. Most of Nebraska is covered by the regional transmission organization Southwest Power Pool, with Midcontinent ISO also serving some areas.
The NWS issued a flash flood warning for Topeka, Manhattan, Lawrence and areas near Salina in Kansas. Meanwhile, Atchison, Leavenworth, Iola, and Coffeyville, were covered under a flood warning, while an alert for severe thunderstorm was given for areas near Hays. Evergy (EVRG) is among the major service providers in Kansas.
In Missouri, a flood warning was raised for Jefferson City, Columbia, Washington, St Joseph, Chillicothe, Boonville, Carrollton, St. Louis, Nevada, and nearby areas. Evergy, Ameren's (AEE) Missouri unit, and Algonquin Power & Utilities (AQN) subsidiary Liberty are the major service providers in Missouri.
Alabama's Huntsville, which falls under the service area of Southern Company unit (SO) Alabama Power, was placed under a flood warning watch.
The NWS issued a flash flood warning for areas near Bowling Green in Kentucky; and Gary in Illinois. Meanwhile, flood warnings were issued for small pockets of Oklahoma, Washington, Texas, and Louisiana.
In Oregon, the NWS issued a freeze warning for Chemult, Silver Lake, Bly, Chiloquin, Klamath Falls, and Lakeview, primarily served by PacifiCorp unit Pacific Power.
