NVIDIA has committed $1.5 billion to SB Energy, the renewable arm of SoftBank Group (TYO:9984), while also stepping in as the exclusive AI compute supplier for the firm's Ohio data center project, a facility OpenAI will lease.

Through a partnership with SB Energy, NVIDIA has secured land, power, and shell (LPS) capacity at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, where it will house its compute infrastructure.

OpenAI will serve as the anchor tenant, with SB Energy building, owning, and operating the facility under a 20-year lease agreement with the AI research firm, according to SB Energy's statement on Monday.

The chipmaker will act as the exclusive AI compute provider at the campus, which launches with an initial 4.25 IT-GW deployment and offers expansion potential up to 8 IT-GW total.

The project is expected to generate "tens of thousands" of jobs in Ohio and establish an $80 million community benefits fund.
