NovoCure's (NVCR) Optune Pax wearable device has received CE Mark approval in the European Union to treat adult patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer, in combination with gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel, the company said Tuesday.
The approval was supported by data from a phase 3 trial showing "statistically significant" improvement in overall survival and "significantly extended" time to pain progression, the company said.
Optune Pax delivers Tumor Treating Fields, alternating electric fields designed to disrupt cancer cell division without significantly affecting healthy cells, NovoCure said.
Shares of NovoCure were 2.6% lower in early Tuesday trading.
