Nigeria on Tuesday approved a new $4.5 billion financing package to refinance an existing oil-backed loan and unlock fresh liquidity for the country as it seeks to strengthen foreign reserves and fund development priorities.
The facility, known as "Project Gazelle 2," will refinance the outstanding balance of about $1.5 billion from the original $3.3 billion Project Gazelle Pre-Export Finance Facility secured in 2023 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, Vice President Kashim Shettima said in a post on X.
The new arrangement will provide NNPC with an additional $3 billion in liquidity, helping Nigeria improve its external reserves position while supporting government spending on infrastructure and economic programmes.
