New Zealand Shares Fall; New Zealand King Salmon Investments Lifts Fiscal Year 2026 Earnings Guidance

New Zealand shares ended lower on Thursday while most Asian shares saw losses after a sell-off in Wednesday's Wall Street trading session.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index fell 0.28% or 39.12 points to close at 13,958.06.

On Wednesday, the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.8%, the S&P 500 fell 0.2% while the Dow Jones managed to add 0.5%.

A proposed deal brokered by Oman to end the five-month conflict between Iran and the United States would hand Tehran authority over vessels entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, in what would represent one of the most significant concessions yet made to Iran, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a senior Iranian source and two regional officials.

In corporate news, New Zealand King Salmon Investments (ASX:NZK, NZE:NZK) upgraded its fiscal 2026 earnings guidance, increasing its pro forma earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization forecast to NZ$30 million to NZ$34 million from NZ$23 million to NZ$29 million.

Promisia Healthcare (NZE:PHL) agreed to conditionally acquire the two companies that own and operate Christchurch's Chatswood Retirement Village in a NZ$25 million deal, subject to shareholder, regulatory and New Zealand Exchange approvals.

Seiko Epson (TYO:6724) said its board agreed to launch an up to 30 billion yen buyback, repurchasing as many as 17 million common shares as part of its plan to drive growth investments and shareholder returns.The printer manufacturer said the share buyback will run from Aug. 7, 2026, through March 31, 2027, and all repurchased shares will be canceled, according to a Thursday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.The buyback, to be conducted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange using the discretionary method, represents 5.31% of its outstanding shares excluding treasury stock.

CPE Technology Unit to Buy Johor Land with Factory for MYR10 Million

CPE Technology's (KLSE:CPETECH) subsidiary, Champion Precision Technology, agreed to acquire a piece of freehold land with a factory in Johor, Malaysia, from Flomatic Industries, for 10 million ringgit, according to a Wednesday filing with Bursa Malaysia.The acquisition will be funded via proceeds from the company's initial public offering.The expansion is part of CPE's strategy to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and expand production capacity.The transaction is expected to conclude by the second quarter of 2027, the filing said.
