New Zealand shares ended lower on Monday as most Asian markets saw losses after the US threatened sanctions on Iran's trade partners.
The S&P/NZX 50 Index fell 0.65% or 90.78 points to close at 13,881.88.
On Friday, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.4%, and the Dow Jones added 1%.
The US threatened Iran with sweeping new economic sanctions targeting its trade partners on Monday, while Iran warned it would halt all oil exports from the Gulf if the financial pressure continued, according to a Monday Reuters report.
In domestic news, the number of transport motor vehicle registrations in New Zealand in July licensed for 12 months fell to 3.8 million from 3.9 million in the same period last year, according to figures released by Stats NZ.
Also, the total volume of retail sales in New Zealand in the June quarter in seasonally adjusted terms was NZ$26 billion, down 0.5% compared with the March quarter, according to a report released by Stats NZ.
In corporate news, Chorus (ASX:CNU, NZE:CNU) logged NZ$0.07 in earnings per share for fiscal 2026, compared with NZ$0.01 a year ago.
Property For Industry (NZE:PFI) logged NZ$0.1093 in adjusted funds from operations (AFFO) for fiscal 2026, compared with NZ$0.0959 a year ago.
