New Zealand shares fell on Tuesday while Asian markets were mostly lower amid worries of an escalating US-Iran conflict.
The S&P/NZX 50 Index slid 1.08% or 149.93 points to close at 13,792.90.
Iran threatened the US with "economic warfare" on Tuesday and said it had fired an advanced missile at US warships, highlighting the risk of further escalation just days after both sides exchanged strikes, according to a Tuesday Reuters report.
In domestic news, total actual filled jobs in New Zealand rose by 0.3%, or 4,277 jobs, in the June quarter compared with the March quarter, according to data published by Stats NZ.
Also, sales for businesses in New Zealand increased 8.9% year over year in the June quarter to NZ$214 billion, while their operating profit rose 7.9% to NZ$29 billion, data from Stats NZ showed.
In corporate news, Bremworth (NZE:BRW) said the level of acceptances received under Mangawhai Collective's offer in respect of the Bremworth shares is 2.36%, as of the end of the day on Monday.
F&C Investment Trust (NZE:FCT) said its net assets before charges at market value, excluding income, came in at 3.7593 pounds sterling per ordinary share as of Sept. 4.
