New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday unveiled an investment of nearly $1 billion as part of a sustainable future program to help reduce emissions and increase renewable energy generation and infrastructure within the state.
The funding is part of the Clean, Highly Affordable, Reliable, Grid Expansion or Charge agenda, a five-pronged framework focused on expanding clean energy and keeping electricity reliable and affordable for New Yorkers, according to a statement from the Governor's office.
The $1 billion funding plan for this year includes an allocation of about $500 million to support decarbonization & energy cost savings and $300 million for the expansion of affordable renewable energy.
Gov. Hochul also unveiled the Energy Infrastructure Development Plan, part of the Charge agenda, which the statement said was "a new approach to energy planning" amid an unprecedented rise in energy demand due to manufacturing, electrification and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence in the state.
