New World Development (HKG:0017) has received approval from the Shanghai Stock Exchange to spin off and publicly list its REIT, thereby relinquishing its controlling interest in Shanghai New World Huaihai Property Development, the owner of Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, according to a Sunday bourse filing.
If the transaction goes ahead, the company will subscribe to 20% of the REIT units offered during the IPO for 764 million yuan, and external investors will subscribe to the remaining units for 3.1 billion yuan.
The company's shares were last up nearly 2% on the HKEX by midday Monday.
