Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NEC Sign Defense Alliance MOU

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011) and NEC (TYO:6701) have signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic defense alliance to collaborate on operational planning, command‑and‑control systems and unmanned assets, according to a Wednesday joint statement

The partnership aims to reinforce Japan's defense industrial base and establish sovereignty over data and AI amid shifting security environments. The companies will accelerate capability upgrades for defense equipment and support new warfare methods using unmanned systems and AI‑driven operations.

By integrating cloud operations and AI technologies, they plan to deliver high‑reliability command‑and‑control solutions to help transform Japan's defense capabilities, the statement said.

Viva Goods (HKG:0933) has purchased 29.6 million shares of Chinese sportswear giant Li Ning (HKG:2331) for HK$398.4 million as an investment, according to a Tuesday bourse filing.The company said it bought the shares through open market transactions at an average price of HK$13.45 apiece.Following the transaction, Viva's stakeholding in Li Ning rose to 16.9%, with ownership of 437.2 million shares.
