Grupo Cox, a Spanish multinational water and energy company, will invest $1 billion in renewable energy development in Mexican state Nuevo Leon, according to a social media post by Governor Samuel Garcias on Friday.
This followed Grupo Cox's $4-billion acquisition of Iberdrola Mexico, which includes 2.6 gigawatts of operational installed capacity and 12 GW of renewable project pipeline.
In Garcias' meeting with Cox on Friday, the company confirmed the closing of Iberdrola transaction, which is one of the largest investments recorded in Nuevo Leon, according to the governor.
"But that is not all. They (Cox) told us that they are committed to our state and will invest an additional $1 billion in renewable energy plants in the municipalities of Sabinas Hidalgo, Salinas Victoria, Mina, Los Ramones, and more," Garcias said in the translated statement.
has contacted Grupo Cox to seek confirmation and comment regarding its investment plans in the state.
