Meridian Energy Secures Resource Consent for Repowering of New Zealand Wind Farm; Shares Jump 4%

Meridian Energy (ASX:MEZ, NZE:MEL) received a key remaining resource consent from Palmerston North City Council allowing for the 172-megawatt (MW) repowering of its Te Rere Hau wind farm in Manawatū, New Zealand, according to filings with both the Australian and New Zealand bourses.

Consent was required to accommodate the relocation of an Airways communication facility to a new site, per the filing. Additional consents are required for minor road upgrades.

The wind farm has 91 small turbines with generation capacity of 45.5 MW, the filing said. The proposed repowering project will involve the construction and operation of up to 40 new turbines, with generation capacity of up to 172 MW. A final investment decision is expected from the board in early 2027.

The company's shares rose nearly 4% in recent trading on Friday on ASX.
