Market Chatter: US Senators Ask Apple to Stop Buying Chips from Blacklisted China Firms

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators called on Apple to not purchase chips from blacklisted China-based semiconductor manufacturers and reduce dependence on Chinese supplies, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing a letter.

The letter, written by Republican Jim Banks of Indiana and Democrat Chuck Schumer of New York, called on Apple CEO Tim Cook to stop using parts from ChangXin Memory Technologies (SHA:688825) or CXMT and Yangtze Memory Technologies even if the products are meant for export to China, the report said.

The senators said CXMT and YMTC are part of a list of Chinese companies said to support the People's Liberation Army, according to the report.

Apple, CXMT, and YMTC did not immediately respond to requests for comment from.
