The US government is conducting an investigation into Singapore-based Apex Logistics' alleged involvement in smuggling Nvidia AI chips to China, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The authorities are examining whether Apex transported AI systems made by Super Micro Computer in violation of US export restrictions, the report added.
Since 2022, the US has barred the sales of advanced AI chips to China over concerns that it could aid the country's military, the report noted.
The report is spearheaded by the city-state's Bureau of Industry and Security, which is reviewing 47 Apex shipments, the report added.
Responding torequest for comment via email, Apex's parent, Kuehne+Nagel confirmed the reports and said it is fully cooperating with relevant authorities.
Apex Logistics is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities regarding this isolated matter within a wider U.S. government investigation."
The company added: "Kuehne+Nagel has not been contacted by the authorities and, as this matter does not relate to Kuehne+Nagel and remains subject to an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further."
