Market Chatter: Tsingshan Suspends Some Exports of Metal Products from Indonesia

Nickel giant Tsingshan's Indonesian smelting facilities suspended exports of some of its metal products following questions on government oversight in the Southeast Asian archipelago, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Tsinghan has stopped exporting mixed hydroxide precipitate, a product used in electric-vehicle batteries, while exports of other commodities such as nickel pig iron have also seen disruptions, Bloomberg said, citing the sources.

Indonesia has stepped up its trade and processing oversight on resources to maximize earnings from mining and has ramped up inspections of shipments to check for rare earth traces and radioactive elements, according to the report.

Tsingshan did not immediately respond to a request for comment from.
