Tata Electronics is preparing to begin semiconductor wafer production in India using an older manufacturing process than originally planned, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Tata Group's technology unit plans to produce chips primarily using 90-nanometer process technology at its upcoming fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, the report said. The facility is reportedly expected to be India's first large-scale semiconductor fabrication plant.
The project is being developed in partnership with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing (TPE:6770), according to the report.
Tata Electronics did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
