Taiwan's Aerospace Industrial Development (AICD) is expanding into counter-drone systems as Taipei seeks to boost defenses against China's growing unmanned aircraft capabilities, Nikkei Asian Review reported Tuesday, citing AIDC Senior Vice President Alex Tsai.
The company is developing radar and electronic-jamming capabilities, while researching low-cost hard-kill options, including cheaper rockets and drone interceptors. AIDC won a NT$1.2 billion contract with Shield AI in July to supply 12 shipborne V-BAT drones to Taiwan's Coast Guard, the Nikkei said.
AIDC is also seeking overseas opportunities, including Japan, while demand for Taiwanese drone components such as motors, batteries and flight-control systems is growing in Europe, the news outlet said.
